In Shuangjiang Mengku, Lincang, Yunnan, there lies a land revered as a sacred place by tea lovers — the Bingdao Tea Region. Situated along the Lancang River, it is surrounded by misty mountains, lush greenery, a mild climate, and fertile soil, making it a natural treasure for ancient tea trees. Bingdao Old Village and the surrounding five villages (Bingdao, Dijie, Nuowu, Bawai, and Nanpo) together form the renowned Bingdao tea region.

Bingdao boasts abundant ancient tea tree resources, many of which are hundreds of years old. Its tea is rich in energy yet never harsh. The liquor is smooth, lingering, and carries a subtle rock sugar sweetness, earning Bingdao the title of “Queen of Pu’er Tea.” Unlike the bold, heavy character of Menghai tea, Bingdao tea is celebrated for its elegant floral-fruity aroma and sweet, soft taste, highlighting its delicate and graceful charm.


Brewing and Tasting Bingdao Tea

To truly experience the elegance of Bingdao tea, proper brewing is essential.

  1. Teaware & Water Temperature

    • A gaiwan or Yixing teapot is recommended to best release the aroma and texture.

    • Use water at about 95°C (203°F) to bring out the fragrance while avoiding bitterness.

  1. Tea-to-Water Ratio

    • For a 110ml gaiwan, use about 5–7 grams of tea.

    • For a stronger taste, slightly increase the amount, but avoid overloading.

  2. Rinsing & Steeping

    • First, rinse the tea quickly to awaken the leaves.

    • In the early steeps, use quick infusions for a sweet, bright liquor with floral-fruity aroma.

    • In the middle steeps, extend the brewing slightly, creating a fuller and rounder body with pronounced rock sugar sweetness.

    • In later steeps, the liquor softens into a lingering sweetness, revealing layered progression and lasting aftertaste.

  1. Tasting Experience

    • At first sip, the tip of the tongue senses delicate floral notes and a trace of sweetness.

    • After swallowing, the throat feels soothed and hydrated, with obvious salivation.

    • Even after many infusions, the sweetness endures, like fresh mountain spring water, leaving a long-lasting impression.
